Description
The Anglican Clinic, Yelwoko was founded in 1996 ( 17 years ago), by Rt Rev Dr. Hon Jacob Kofi Ayeebo. It belongs to the Anglican Church (Anglican Diocese of Tamale). It is located in Binaba Sub-District- Bawku West District, Zebilla in the Upper East Region, Ghana. It is the only Christian health association of Ghana ( CHAG) facility in the District, It is about 15 km from the nearest district hospital, and it serves the 7 neighboring communities namely,Gumb, Asoblaga, Kpalsako, Nagbere, Kamega, Zuayanga,Kpantarigo and Yelwoko. It located in Binaba Sub-District -Bawku West District,Zebilla in the Upper East Region, Ghana
Mission: 

The Yelwoko Clinic exist to provide the best quality health care to all persons using modern medical technology through competent, well-motivated and God fearing staff.

Vision: 

To be a preferred destination for health care in the community.

Description: 

Connect4Change is a consortium of five Dutch development organisations (Akvo, Cordaid, Edukans, ICCO, IICD and preferred partner Text to Change ) who joined hands to accelerate the development of people in Africa and Latin America by using Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The consortium works in economic development/agriculture, education and healthcare.

Description: 

The Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) approach which ACDEP initiated in 2000 as an extension of its PHC approach to health promotion has become one of the major strategies used for intervention delivery within the ACDEP network.

Supported 10 ACDEP-member PHCs to pilot the program actively working with adolescents.
Identify capacity building needs for PHC staff, adolescents and their coordinators.
72 adolescent reproductive health clubs have been formed in 38 communities
Recruited and train 84 peer educators in-school and out-of-school clubs in 38 communities.
Recruited 33 adolescent reproductive health club coordinators made up of health staff, teachers, and religious instructors.
Trained 25 health staff, 2,884 adolescents, 347 traditional medical practitioners, 6 trainers of trainers (resource team) in adolescent reproductive health.
Supported 4 PHCs to form 4 adolescent health corners
Organised 4 experience sharing workshops for ACDEP-member PHCs and regional level partner consultation workshops.
Supported the PHC programmes to start the process of developing best practices in the integration of adolescent reproductive health and traditional medicine practice.

Project Goal: 
To improve the capacity of ACDEP-member primary health care projects to provide an integrated and seamless primary health care that directly targets and addresses the reproductive health needs of adolescents.

Description: 

In Northern Ghana around 80% of the population rely on traditional herbal remedies prepared by traditional medicine practitioners (TMP’s) for their primary healthcare needs. This traditional practice tends to operate in separately from orthodox medical provision preventing the timely referral of cases. Please see the attached TMP Report for a more detailed analysis.

To improve the linkage with and practice of 800 traditional health practitioners for better health care in 100 rural communities

Supported 7 ACDEP-member PHCs to pilot the program and actively working traditional medical practitioners.
Supported the PHC programmes to start the process of developing best practices in the integration of adolescent reproductive health and traditional medicine practice.
Identify capacity building needs for PHC staff and traditional medical practitioners.
Registered more than 371 traditional medical practitioners in 66 communities in the Upper East and Northern regions.
Trained 347 traditional medical practitioners in adolescent reproductive health.
Organised 4 experience sharing workshops for ACDEP-member PHCs and regional level partner consultation workshops.
Supported TMPs to form TMP associations at each of the 7 participating PHCs

To improve the capacity of ACDEP-member primary health care projects to provide an integrated and seamless primary health care that recognises traditional medicine practice.
