Description:
The E.P. Church Rural Development programme started as an Agricultural Station in the early 1970s. Its main focus was to support farmers with tractor services and the supply of farm inputs to enable them increase agricultural production. Following an evaluation, the focus of the Programme later changed to Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development.
Objectives:
To empower the rural poor to improve upon their income generation through sustainable agriculture and reduce their level of poverty and adverse health conditions.
Partner Activities:
Agro Forestry: Train farmers in nursery management techniques, supply seedlings/seed to farmers on request mainly cashew and tree growing. Beekeeping: Assist farmers to undertake beekeeping as a dual-purpose activity to generate income and protect the environment Extension Education: Undertake visits to farms, homes and field demonstrations on modern farming techniques. Food Security: Grain banking, small ruminant breeding Micro Credit and Savings Scheme: Support women and men groups with loans for income generating activities Nutrition and Improvement: Introduce women to soya bean cultivation and as a cash crop, teach women to use soya in local dishes to improve nutritional status of family, especially children.
